San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Tasting
It wouldn't be the same without them – the girls from Cal
Poly, San Luis Obispo are once again planning their annual
reunion at the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Public Tasting on Saturday, February 16th at Fort Mason's
Festival Pavilion. Known as the unofficial "poster girls" of
www.winejudging.com , this group of close friends has been
gathering at the largest competition of American wines in
the world every February since graduating from college. One
of these girls is Erica Thompson, who earned her BS in Civil
Engineering and hails from Fresno. "I look forward to the
wine show every year," she says. "It's become a great
tradition I share with my best friends from Cal Poly."
Kristin Paluck, a native of Pleasanton who earned her BS in
Kinesiology agrees. "I am so excited for the 2008 Public
Tasting – great wine, fun people, and most importantly, a
chance to see my Cal Poly girls again. We always enjoy
getting together and catching up while tasting award-winning
wines!"
The close knit group of friends also includes Molly Wharton
of Oakland, who holds a BS in Nutrition and Brooke Fraser,
who earned her BS in Agriculture Science. "I love the
waterfront wine and food tasting at Fort Mason with my best
friends," Fraser says. "We always run into many of our other
college friends there." All of these girls are part of Cal
Poly's 2006 graduating class with the exception of Erin
Thompson, who earned her BS in Agricultural Business in 2007
and is equally ecstatic to see everyone again at this year's
Public Tasting. "What started as a weekend college road trip
has now become an annual reunion. This will be our third
year, and each year is better than the last! I am looking
forward to the upcoming 2008 event – enjoying good wine with
great friends."
2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine
Competition Presenting Sponsor- Target

In celebration of another record-breaking
year, the largest competition of American wines in the world is excited
to announce a brand new partnership, welcoming Target as the Official
Presenting Sponsor of the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
"We are extremely honored to collaborate with Target," states Bob
Fraser, Executive Director. "Target has demonstrated excellence in the
marketplace and sustained an outstanding record in giving back to their
communities. We are thrilled that Target will be joining the San
Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in educating and informing
consumers of the excellent wines grown and produced throughout the
country."
Target's first store opened in Roseville,
Minnesota, in 1962. Its on-trend merchandise at affordable prices
launched a new era in discount retailing. This "T-1" store was easy to
shop, attractive and always clean, serving as the prototype for every
Target store opened since and ultimately changing how consumers think
about discount shopping.
Today, Target operates approximately
1,500 stores in 47 states, including more than 175 SuperTarget® stores
that add an upscale grocery shopping experience. In addition to the
photo processing, pharmacy and Food Avenue® restaurants found in almost
every Target, SuperTarget includes an in-store bakery, as well as deli,
meat, and produce sections.
From national partnerships and local
initiatives to their own programs, Target is committed to making our
communities better places to live. A strong supporter of the arts,
Target sponsors free attendance days, encourages team members to
volunteer and donate generously to charities, and creates initiatives
that make a profound impact. These programs include Take Charge of
Education®, which has raised more than $200 million for schools since
1997, and Or Start Something®, Target's partnership with the Tiger Woods
Foundation that helps kids build character as they identify and achieve
their dreams. From the beginning, Target Corporation has given 5% of
pretax profits to good causes; today they are giving back over $3
million a week to education, the arts, and social services.
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine
Competition, which annually benefits the Santa Rosa Junior College Wine
Studies Program and Culinary Arts Program, is proud to partner with an
organization that is as equally committed to educational excellence and
improvement.
